On Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 July 2022, Minister of the Interior Kristaps Eklons will attend the Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers of the European Union in Prague, Czech Republic, to discuss the security implications of Russia’s expanded war in Ukraine for Europe, the interoperability of international IT systems, the future challenges of migration, and possible action to prevent and combat sexual violence against children.

Ministers will discuss key internal security risks, measures to strengthen operational cooperation, EU support for strengthening internal security and borders in Ukraine and Moldova, as well as increasing technical support to Ukrainian and Moldovan law enforcement authorities. Other issues on the agenda include the development of EU border, migration and security information systems, a comprehensive EU approach to migration and asylum, and the role of national coordinating bodies in preventing and combating sexual violence against children.
