On 29 August, the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the Information Centre (IC) of the Ministry of the Interior to provide support to Ukraine by transferring, free of charge, office equipment and computer hardware – in total almost 1000 pieces of equipment – in the inventory of the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior to the Chernihiv Regional State Administration of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Kherson Regional Military Administration of Ukraine.
Taking into account cyber security requirements, the IC has started a gradual upgrade of computers to workstations compatible with the latest operating system and is gradually replacing computers that do not support the operating system. Given the persistently high cyber risks, the Ministry of the Interior cannot afford to take the risk of massively using computers with operating systems that have a number of known vulnerabilities, while at the same time much of the hardware to be replaced, despite its lifetime (more than 5 years), is in working order and can be safely used until 2025.
