On Tuesday, June 15, the Cabinet of Ministers issued regulations regarding the amount of information to be included in the Register of Natural Persons, which determines what information regarding the person will be included or updated in the Register of Natural Persons (hereinafter - Register).

It is important to point out that the Register of Natural Persons will combine the functionality of the existing Population Register and the Information System for the Registration of Official Status.

With effect from 28 June 2021, the Information System for the Registration of Civil Status Acts will terminate its activities and from 28 June the registration of civil status records will be carried out in the Register of Natural Persons.

These rules generally optimise and make services provided by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs more efficient.

These Regulations shall specify in detail the amount of information that will be included and updated in the Register regarding the birth of a person, the address of the declared, registered or indicated place of residence, the contact address, the personal identity number assigned by another country, which is entered in a personal identification document or entered in a document issued by the competent authority.

Employees who will include personal information in the Register will check the correspondence of the information with personal identification documents with legal effect in Latvia.

The contact address to be indicated will in turn have an informative nature and will be indicated to ensure communication with foreigners and, if necessary, to send correspondence. The contact address is not intended to indicate the person's e-mail address for the reason that the documents to be sent may contain personal data and other restricted access information.

In addition, an official electronic address was recently established to ensure electronic communication of natural persons with public authorities, which may be used by individuals registered in the Population Register (future in the Register of Natural Persons) from the age of 14.
