Yesterday, around 15.30 in Freedom Street, Riga, a bicycle was stolen in a courtyard of multi-story houses. The owner of the bicycle, being nearby, spotted a person crossing the safety line of his bicycle and leaving. The victim immediately began running after the thief. Then a driver pulled up to the victim's car and asked about what had happened. The driver offered his help to the victim, and both started following a bicycle thief with a car. As he reached Schmerl Forest, about 100 meters from the street, the bicycle thief fell off his bicycle and managed to hold him. It was announced to the police officers at the Riga Teikas station who went to the scene and took the suspect to the police station. The detained garner is a man born in 1981 who had been punished before.

On April 21, however, a bicycle was stolen at a supermarket in Mezhciems, Bikernieku Street. While the victim had been in the shop, the long-tailed man had stolen his bicycle and left by cutting the security wire. In carrying out operational investigative measures and obtaining video camera records, police officers of the Riga Regional Administration Teikas precinct, in cooperation with the legal guards of the Criminal Police Office of the Riga Region, identified the potential culprit. At the beginning of this week, on May 11, police detained him. The detainee is a man born in 1986. He has been punished several times in advance for analogous crimes.

In this case, the police initiated criminal proceedings following the first paragraph of Section 180 of the Criminal Law for minor theft. The Law on such a crime provides for the deprivation of liberty for a period of up to one year or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labour, or a fine.
