Pretrial investigation, the law-enforcement officers found that the crime was most likely committed by persons unrelated to the family, namely men born in 1967 and 1982, who had previously been seen repeatedly by the police, both for financial offences and for crimes against the lives and health of individuals. The investigation also showed that these men are linked to a number of other crimes, including crimes relating to the life and health of persons.

Criminal proceedings were initially qualified for the characteristics of the criminal offence provided for in Article 117, Paragraph six of the Criminal Law. However, criminal proceedings are currently qualified according to the characteristics of the criminal offences provided for in Article 117, Paragraph six, Article 175, Paragraph three, Article 195, Paragraph one, Article 185, Paragraph one, the second paragraph of Article 233, the fourth paragraph of Article 176.
