Officials of the State Police Riga Regional Administration Ogre precinct have discovered two marijuana establishments in the county of Ogre and Dundaga. Five persons have been detained by the State Police for possession of large amounts of marijuana for marketing purposes.

On August 21, this year, officials of the State Police Riga Regional Administration Ogre precinct discovered two marijuana establishments in the county of Ogre and Dundaga. In total, approximately 50 kilograms or 234 marijuana plants and more than two kilograms of finished products, technical equipment, means of communication and other objects of interest in criminal proceedings were seized during shakings in five addresses and cars. Both marijuana nurseries were installed in areas of private homes.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated in relation to the occurrence of Article 253.1 (3) of the Criminal Law on the unauthorised purchase, possession, transport and transfer of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for marketing purposes and unauthorised disposal, if committed by an organised group or committed with narcotic or psychotropic substances to a large extent, or if they have caused other serious consequences; and the sale of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances to a minor, educational establishments or their territory, restaurants, cafes, bars, public entertainment or holiday events.

Punishment for such a criminal offence is intended - deprivation of liberty for a period of five to 15 years, confiscating property or without seizure of property, and supervision of probation for a period of up to three years.

In order to effectively fight crimes related to the circulation of narcotic drugs, the State Police calls on residents to be active and to report – by calling the phone number 110 at the time of the event or by writing an application on the portal Latvija.lv.
