The Road Transport Monitoring Division of the State Police Transport Monitoring and Coordonance Bureau carried out the actual mass control of trucks in the vicinity of Riga yesterday, June 11. During the control, several trucks were inspected, three of which were found to be in breach. Yesterday, during part-hour control of trucks, four cargo vehicles registered in Lithuania were stopped and transported to the actual mass control in Riga. During the inspection, three of these vehicles were found to be in breach.

All vehicles were granted large-scale and heavy-weight transport licences allowing the total composition of the vehicle to reach 52 tonnes. For one truck, the maximum permissible axle load exceeded 612 kilograms, while for the other vehicle registered in Lithuania the maximum permissible actual mass was exceeded by 4 240 kilograms. For the third truck, the maximum permissible mass of the total composition was exceeded by 2 102 kilograms.

A fine of EUR 2800 was imposed on drivers and the carrier for exceeding the permissible actual mass, which was also to be paid on the spot. The freight carrier also had to unload the vehicle to the authorised weight. Further movements were allowed for vehicles following the payment of penalties and the elimination of infringements.

During control, one semi-trailer loaded full of birch logs was also tested and weighed. Although the vehicle's composition appeared to have been transhipped, the inspection showed that the total actual mass of the vehicle was 49 tonnes, as well as the issue of the Latvian National Road Weight Transport Authorisation.

If the citizens of mine are likely to tranship a lorry, the State Police calls for this to be reported by phone number 110.

The law provides that the performance of road transport exceeds the prescribed permissible actual mass of the vehicle (vehicle composition) from 2 to 5 tonnes or axle load from 0.5 to 2 tonnes or the axle load, if the permissible load for each axle is not determined separately, from 1 tonne to 3 tonnes, a fine shall be imposed on the driver of the vehicle between EUR 70 and EUR 780, between EUR 570 and EUR 1400 on the consignor, for the natural person between EUR 140 and EUR 350, and on the legal person EUR 570 to EUR 1400 hundred.
