On Tuesday, July 14, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš presented the Cabinet of Ministers' Letters of Commendation to officials for persistent and highly professional work in defending Latvia's interests in the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention (hereinafter - Moneyval) Working Group (hereinafter referred to as the FATF).
Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš presented the Cabinet of Ministers' Letters of Commendation to Ilze Znotiņa, Head of the Moneyval Task Force, Head of the Financial Intelligence Service and Deputy Head of the Task Force - Jānis Bekmanis, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Līga Kļaviņa, Deputy State Secretary for Legal Policy of the Ministry, as well as Evika Siliņa, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.
The 2019 Moneyval plenary session reviewed the report submitted by Latvia, as a result of which the experts assessed Latvia's achievements and concluded that all 40 recommendations have been implemented - 7 assessed as fully compliant and 33 - as mostly compliant.
The Letter of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers was founded in 1995. The Letter of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers is presented to express the Government's appreciation to individuals, including foreigners, for outstanding achievements in the fields of economy, science, education, health, environmental protection, public administration, culture, sports and national defense.
The proposal on awarding a Letter of Recognition from the Cabinet of Ministers to the Awards Council shall be submitted by the Prime Minister, ministers, heads of local governments, the Chairman of the Union of Local Governments of Latvia or heads of other non-governmental organizations. The Awards Council examines proposals for the award of a Certificate of Recognition and, after taking a decision, submits a proposal for the award of a Certificate of Recognition to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Taking into account the epidemiological safety requirements set for the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, only the Prime Minister and the recipients of the Letter of Recognition nominated by the Prime Minister participated in the solemn ceremony of presenting the Letters of Commendation.
