On 17 January, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the participation of the State Police (SP) and the State Border Guard (SBG) officials with special service rank in the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) and the allocation of financial resources from the state budget programme “Funds for Unforeseen Events”.

It is envisaged to send the senior inspector of the SP Central Criminal Police Department, major Mārtiņš Štange to participate in the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) from 7 February 2023 until 6 February 2024.

However, the period of participation in the mission is extended until 18 February 2024 for the SP officials - the lieutenant general Kristīne Eiduka, the major Edgars Liepa and the major Jānis Zaļais. For the SP lieutenant colonel Nikolajs Mitroščenko, the period of participation is extended until 7 April 2024.

For the SBG lieutenant colonel Ilvars Dreimanis, the period of participation is extended until 3 March 2024.

In order to ensure the stay of the SP and the SBG officials in the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia, the Ministry of the Interior will allocate 249 679 euros from the funds for unforeseen events in 2023. 

In turn, the preparation and examination of the draft law “On Medium Term Budget Framework for 2023, 2024 and 2025” will increase the Ministry of the Interior 2024 expenditure to the State Police by EUR 38,562 and to the State Border Guard by EUR 10,523.

The officials of the Ministry of the Interior provide professional support to the EUMM Georgia since the launch of the mission in 2008.

Currently, 12 Latvian civilian experts are participating in international missions, seven of them in the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) and five in the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine.
