On Thursday, June 4, officials of the State Border Guard in Daugavpils municipality Scrudaliena detained four Latvian citizens for illegal movements of tobacco products and removed 40 thousand cigarettes on NZ Gold with Belarusian excise stamps.

Officials of the Silene border guarding department in the parish of Skrudaliene, the border zone, about 950 m from the State border, detained two Latvian citizens who moved four boxes wrapped in black polyethylene bag, but a moment later on about organizing and supporting the criminal offence two Latvian citizens were detained. In total, border guards removed 40,000 NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.

Border guards compiled the administrative violation protocols for two persons after the first paragraph of Section 194.1 (regarding violation of the State border zone, border zone, border border or border border crossing regime).

Criminal proceedings have been initiated following Article 190, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Law (regarding the importation or exportation of goods or other values subject to customs clearance into the customs territory of the Republic of Latvia in which, bypassing customs controls or secreting them from such controls, or by not declaring or using falsified customs or other documents or other illegal means (smuggling), if committed to a significant extent). Persons are placed in a temporary detention site of the State Police.
