On Tuesday, July 28, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to extend the term of office of Valters Mūrnieks as the Head of the Internal Security Bureau until October 31, 2025.
By the Minister of the Interior of October 12, 2015 “On the Appointment of V. Mūrnieks” V. Mūrnieks was appointed to the position of the Head of the Internal Security Bureau for five years.
Taking into account that the term of appointment of Colonel Valters Mūrnieks to the position of the Chief of the Internal Security Bureau is approaching, as well as taking into account the results of Valters Mūrnieks' work, service experience and compliance with the position, it is necessary to extend the term of the Head of the Internal Security Bureau.
The head of the Internal Security Bureau is appointed by the Minister of the Interior for five years after the relevant candidature has been approved by the Cabinet. Three months before the expiry of the term, the Cabinet of Ministers shall take a decision regarding the extension of the term for five years upon the recommendation of the relevant Minister.
