On Saturday, May 16, border guards at the border inspection post in Silene detained another bribery - a Ukrainian citizen attempted to bribe border guards, giving a bribe of €50. In carrying out their duties, border guards identified a Ukrainian citizen born in 1986 who wanted to cross the country border without a valid visa.

To cross the country's border with a visa expired, the man paid a bribe of €50 to the border guards, as well as a further €150 to give border guards if €50 is too small.

Criminal proceedings on bribery have been initiated following the first paragraph of Section 323 of the Criminal Law and criminal proceedings have been sent to the Daugavpils Prosecutor's Office with a proposal to prosecute the suspected Ukrainian citizen. With the statement of the Prosecutor's Office of Daugavpils, a man has a fine of 10 minimum monthly salaries, EUR 4 300.

Bribery qualifies as a serious crime for which deprivation of liberty under the Criminal Law of Latvia is threatened for up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced labour or a fine of ten to two thousand minimum monthly salaries specified by the Republic of Latvia.
