Last day, in the period from July 28 this year at 06.30 to July 29 at 06.30, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 50 calls - 16 for firefighting, 24 for rescue work, but 10 calls were deceptions.
Tonight at 03.10 VUGD received a call to Vecumnieki parish of Vecumnieki district, where a fire had broken out in the farm building. Arriving at the scene, firefighters found that a one-storey farm building with an area of 170 m2 was burning with an open flame, and the roof of the building had already been invaded. Three people had evacuated the building before VUGD arrived. At 07.27 fire extinguished.
Last day, fire and rescue workers also rushed to the calls, where two cars burned, dry grass, garbage, burnt food, hay rolls, power line support pole.
Yesterday at 20.58 a call was received to Nīca county, where a boat with two people was in Lake Liepāja. The engine of the inflatable motorboat was damaged and the oar was missing, so people could not get ashore on their own. Firefighters reached the people by boat and took them ashore.
Yesterday in Saldus county, firefighters lifted the rescuer from the pond and handed it over to the State Police officers.
VUGD reminds: be careful when resting near and on the water! When engaging in one of the water sports or riding a boat, cutter or other watercraft, a life jacket must be worn for extra safety. If you happen to fall into the water, it is the life jacket that will help you stay afloat. VUGD firefighters have already lifted 76 dead people from water bodies in 2020!
Last day, the help of fire and rescue workers was needed in seven cases to free the roadway from broken trees, and in three cases to rescue helpless animals. In Liepāja, a cat that was stuck in the engine compartment of a car was released, in Riga, a cat was lifted from a tree, and in Aizkraukle, a bird was released that was entangled in the window decoration materials.
