Traffic restrictions in the city during the Summit

On 21-22 May, the Eastern Partnership Summit will take place in Riga. During the Summit, several traffic restrictions will be introduced in Riga and near Riga International Airport. Changes in Riga public transport schedules are not planned, however some temporary traffic restriction may apply.


 

The Eastern Partnership Summit is one of the most extensive and significant events of the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council. In compliance with local laws and regulations and internationally established practices, the event requires the enforcement of security measures for the protection of the foreign officials in attendance. These measures encompass traffic restrictions in the Old Town, around the National Library of Latvia and the Radisson Blue “Daugava” Hotel, and at and around Riga International Airport.

Please check these traffic restrictions in advance and take them into consideration when planning your daily route.

Starting from 00:01 on 21 May to 17:00 on 22 May, the following routes will be closed to traffic (except for emergency vehicles and vehicles with special permits) o   From building No. 43 on Mūkusalas iela to Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) towards Akmens tilts (excluding public transport)
o   Mūkusalas iela between Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) and Dzelzceļa tilts (Railway Bridge) (excluding public transport);
o   Akmeņu iela between Mūkusalas iela and Jelgavas iela;
o    Jelgavas iela between Vienības gatve and Akmeņu iela;
o   Valguma iela between Akmeņu iela and Uzvaras bulvāris (excluding public transport);
o   Uzvaras bulvāris between Raņķa dambis and Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) (excluding public transport);
o   Kuģu iela between Trijādības iela and Mūkusalas iela, and up to Uzvaras bulvāris;
o   Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) (excluding public transport);
o   Trijādības iela between Staraja Rusas iela and Kuģu iela (excluding vehicles with building operator permits for building No. 26 on Kuģu iela)
o   Left side of 11. novembra krastmala between Muitas iela to building No. 31 (excluding public transport);
o   Grēcinieku iela between 11. novembra krastmala and Kungu iela (excluding vehicles with residents’ cards);
o   Kungu iela between Grēcinieku iela and Krāmu iela (excluding vehicles with residents’ cards);
o   Kaļķu iela between 11. novembra krastmala and Rātslaukums (Town Hall Square);
o   Jauniela between Doma laukums (Doma Square) and Palasta iela (excluding permits issued by the Maintenance Division at Riga City Council);
o   Palasta iela between Jauniela and Bīskapa gāte;
o   Bīskapa gāte between 11. novembra krastmala and Miesnieku iela;
o   Miesnieku iela between Bīskapa gāte and Pils iela;
o    Pils iela between Doma laukums (Doma Square) and Pils laukums (Pils Square);
o    Poļu gāte between Pils iela and 11. novembra krastmala;
o    Lefts side of Oskara Kalpaka bulvāris, 100 m along the building on 1 Reimersa iela;
o    Reimersa iela;
o    Anglikāņu iela;
o    Pils laukums (Pils Square);
o    Arsenāla iela;
o    Klostera iela.

 

If needed, temporary restrictions or closed traffic can be expected for public transport and pedestrian movement at the intersection of Upesgrīvas iela and Kantora iela, Dauguļu iela and Kantora iela, Mežotnes iela and Kantora iela, Ojāra Vācieša iela and Kantora iela, Ojāra Vācieša iela and Tēriņu iela, Altonovas iela and Ojāra Vācieša iela, Ojāra Vācieša iela and Friča Brīvzemnieka iela, Friča Brīvzemnieka iela and Vienības gatve, Trijādības iela and Raņķa dambis, Raņķa dambis and Uzvaras bulvāris, Uzvaras bulvāris and Valguma iela, Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge) and 11. novembra krastmala, 11. novembra krastmala and Poļu gāte, and at Pils iela.

During this period, two-way movement on the left side of Mūkusalas iela will be organised between building No. 43 on Mūkusalas iela and Dzelzceļa tilts (Railway Bridge).

Waiting and parking will be prohibited on the following streets (except for emergency vehicles and vehicles with special permits); if needed, parked vehicles will be moved to the nearest parking area.

         Starting from 7:00 on 19 May to 17:00 on 22 May:
o    Right side of Kuģu iela between Trijādības iela and building No. 15 on Kuģu iela;
o    Pedestrian street between Staraja Rusas iela and Radisson Blu “Daugava” Hotel, from Trijādības iela to Kuģu iela;
o    Both sides of Valguma iela between Uzvaras bulvāris and Akmeņu iela.
        Starting from 17:00 on 20 May to 17:00 on 22 May:
o    Both sides of Kungu iela between Grēcinieku iela and Krāmu iela;
o    Both sides of Kaļķu iela between 11. novembra krastmala and Rātslaukums (Town Hall Square);
        Starting from 20:00 on 20 May to 17:00 on 22 May on both sides of Grēcinieku iela between Kungu iela and 11. novembra krastmala;
        Starting from 00:01 on 21 May to 17:00 on 22 May:
o    Both sides of Reimersa iela;
o    Left side of Elizabetes iela between Tērbatas iela and building No. 73 on Elizabetes iela;
o    Left side of Elizabetes iela between Baznīcas iela and Brīvības bulvāris;
o    Right side of Oskara Kalpaka bulvāris, 100-metres-long section from Reimersa iela towards Brīvības bulvāris;
o    Left side of 11. novembra krastmala between Muitas iela and Akmens tilts (Stone Bridge);
o    Street parallel to 11. novembra krastmala that is adjacent to the Old Town (between Jauniela and Poļu gāte);
o    Right side of Pils iela between Poļu gāte and Doma laukums (Doma Square);
o    Both sides of Bīskapa gāte between Miesnieku iela and 11. novembra krastmala;
o    Jauniela;
o    Car park on Mūkusalas iela between Akmeņu iela and Dzelzceļa tilts (Railway Bridge);
o    Aklā iela;
o    Anglikāņu iela;
o    Both sides of Vienības gatve between Torņukalna iela and Jelgavas iela;
o    Both sides of Miesnieku iela between Bīskapa gāte and Pils iela;
o    Herdera laukums (Herdera Square);
o    Both sides of Palasta iela between Bīskapa gāte and 11.novembra krastmala;
o    Pils laukums (Pils Square);
o    Doma laukums (Doma Square);
o    Poļu gāte;
o    Mūkupurva iela between Mīkliņu iela and Kazeņu iela;
o    Both sides of Mūku iela between Miesnieku iela and Herdera laukums (Herdera Square);
o    Mazā Skolas iela;

         On 22 May from 7:00 to 17:00:
o    Right side of Patversmes iela, 60-metres-long section from Vītola iela;
o    Right side of Vītolu iela, 60-metres-long section from Patversmes iela.
